SAA operated the A320 during two periods in its history. In 1991 the airline took delivery of it’s very first Airbus A320 and was the first of 7 aircraft. In all 7 aircraft were operated between 1991 and 2001 when they were replaced by the Boeing 737-800. Barely a year later, in 2002 SAA ordered 15 A320s, 11 A319s and 15 A340s. The A320 order was not fulfilled, but the airline re-committed to the A320 order in July 2009, with first aircraft delivered in 2012.
